Brazil opened the scoring in the first half when Neymar converted a penalty in the 7th minute. Philippe Coutinho doubled Brazil's lead in the 28th minute with a powerful strike from outside the box.

Costa Rica had a few chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to convert. Brazil held on to win 2-0 and now has three points in Group E.
